If unsightly veins on your legs concern you, we offer this “Gold Standard” in the treatment. Sclerotherapy uses tiny injections of a sclerosing agent (Sotradecol or polidocanol) to irritate the inner lining of the unwanted vein resulting in the closure of the vein. Your body then reabsorbs the treated vein over a 2-6 week period. Our technique has minimal pain, the sclerosing agent has minor stinging and because the gauge of the needle is so small, patients report very little discomfort during the treatment.
The number of treatments needed differs from patient to patient, depending on the extent of the problem. An average of 3-4 sessions is required in most cases, with each session lasting approximately 30 minutes. You may return to work and most activities immediately after treatment.
70-80% clearance of treated veins is a reasonable expectation; however, family history, pregnancy and hormones (such as estrogen, birth control pills and menopause) may cause new veins to form over time.
Kimberly Vonderlieth is a certified physician assistant with over six years of experience in evaluating and treating your leg veins using the technique of sclerotherapy.
